There’s a story (true or false, I don’t know) about the famous artist, Pablo Picasso. It seems a woman came up to him and asked him to sketch something on a piece of paper. He sketched it, and gave it back to her saying: “That will cost you $10,000”. She was astounded. “You took just […]

Book prices are run by fear, not by what’s happening in the real world. You can buy a book today from Amazon at $10. And it’s acceptable to get a book at $10 only because your neighbourhood publisher doesn’t have the nerve that his local restaurant has. My curry at the local takeaway now costs […]

It’s fine to say ‘less is more.’ But instead ‘more is not less.’ And often certain phrases like this get thrown about without any real frame of reference. For example: Let’s say you sat down to dinner. And you got three olives and a glass of water. That’s less. And you’re still hungry. On the […]

Don’t you hate it when you run into trouble you hadn’t expected? Well that’s just how things are. Chaos happens. And of course the chaos happens at the very last minute too. I’m headed to the US this evening, and suddenly realised that the updates to the podcasts weren’t happening at all. This means I […]

Walk down to your local supermarket. Watch the old lady giving you crackers and some new fangled dip being promoted by a local food company. Your curiosity gets the better of you–if your hunger doesn’t get there first. You taste one dip, then another and if you have the nerve, all the five dips that […]

So let’s assume you’ve had a crappy day. A really, really crappy day. Do you write a blog post on a crappy day? If you listened to all those people around you, they’ll all chorus a big “NOoooooooooooooo!” You should only write when you’re happy, and excited, they say. You shouldn’t write when you’re sad. […]

I wake up every morning at 4am. And before I know it, it’s 7am. At 7am I take stock of what I’ve done Some days I’ll whistle through two or three articles, answer questions on the 5000bc forum, post on this blog, and even go through chunks of email, and sometimes I even have time […]

You probably haven’t realised it. But there’s a difference between the two. Time well wasted is a good activity. Wasting time is a silly activity. So what’s the difference between the two concepts? And how on earth could either of them be ‘good’ activities? Let’s tackle wasting time So I woke up today, and got […]
